Tell us something unique about yourself
My journey at Virgin Active started ten years ago, when I applied for the position of a Membership Consultant at our West London club. I was initially turned down for the role, however I was determined to not take no for an answer and so I reapplied two weeks later. Second time around I was given a chance to prove myself.
Since then, I have worked in eight different roles across departments, mainly within sales. And, through my time as a Regional Sales Manager, covered 61 clubs across the UK. I’ve gained invaluable experience and worked with so many different people in various capacities. This has helped me develop my skills up until my role today as Head of Central Services.
Who are you at work?
I take great pride in my work and therefore set a high standard for my team and myself. I believe in the motto ‘work hard, play hard’ and so when I’m not at work I’m usually spending time with my family, visiting work again (but to train) or following my beloved Liverpool FC across the country.
I will always try to make work a fun place to be for my team and, in return, I expect trust, honesty and effort. Our focus should always be one team, one goal “If you want to go fast, go alone. If you want to go far – go together” and so I would never ask my team members to do anything I wouldn’t do myself. Having an open culture where people can be themselves and feel accepted is incredibly important to me and I consider it a cornerstone when I’m developing any team, as I believe it’s our collective differences that make us stronger.
I’ve also been known to play a few pranks over the years…so watch out!
What are your dreams for the future?
It was to see Liverpool win the league but we’ve already done that now!!
I would like to continue to live by the 5 F’s – family, friends, football, food and fitness. Staying active and healthy in order to be there for my son, teaching him to be the best he possibly can be and to encourage him to always chase his dreams.
I would like to take some risks and seize any opportunities that present themselves both personally and professionally. So that, when I look back at my career and life, I can confidently say that I have no regrets.
