Tell us something unique about yourself

Since childhood I have loved everything Star Wars. The characters are genius and the storyline always has you on the edge of your seat. However, it may surprise some people to know that I don’t support the Jedi and the Light Side of the force, but in fact, I side with The Empire, or the Dark Side. As Darth Vader said in the climactic sequence of The Empire Strikes Back, “If Only You Knew The Power Of The Dark Side...”. My friends would also add that I love the Dark Side due to my dark sense of humour!

I’m a tattoo enthusiast with16 and counting. They are all personal to me, some family related or to mark an important time in my life, every one has a story, which I think is important with permanent markings. Getting a Mickey Mouse tattoo on my bum cheek was never an option for me when I was younger...thankfully.

With over 20 years’ experience I am proud to say that I am the longest serving General Manger at VAUK. There have been many magic moments over the course of my career however, receiving my Special Contribution award at the Star Awards in 2016 dressed, as Abraham Lincoln, was definitely a highlight.

Who are you at work?

I believe that the fitness industry is a great place to work to Be Yourself, whatever that means to you, and that at VA we are inclusive and welcoming to all. Sitting in an office cubicle behind a computer with little or no opportunity to express myself was never an option for me!

I’ve always been people focused and a supportive person both in and outside of work. We are all striving to be our best selves and are, therefore, always learning and improving. I like to focus on trying to support my team achieve their goals and to share my experience. Having fun is intrinsic to my work ethic and I believe helps to drive and get the best out of people.

What are your dreams for the future?

My dream for the future is to retire at 60 and to move to a farmhouse in the country with acres of land for my dogs to roam. I have a big soft spot for dogs and so can imagine that I would end up with10 or more running about.

Oh, and an endless supply of Jameson Whiskey to sip on while sat on the front porch admiring the view would do quite nicely.
